Anya H. Johnson was born and raised, and is a current resident of Choctaw County, Alabama. She received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration from Auburn University Montgomery December of 2003. She has worked in Economic Development for the past 4 years. Anya was influential in the implementation of the Individual Development Accounts program in Alabama and the conception of the Alabama Asset Building Coalition. Her greatest desire is to offer solutions to the residents of Alabama’s Black Belt that create financially sustainable communities and generational wealth.

She currently serves as the Economic Development Specialist at the Greene/Sumter Enterprise Community (GSEC) of York, Alabama. In this capacity, she serves as program manager for the Individual Development Accounts Program, the Entrepreneurial Academy, and GSEC’s Revolving Loan Fund Program.

Anya has focused majority of her work in the areas of community development and asset building. She organized and developed the Choctaw Community Development Center. She serves on the board of directors for the Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF) and the Choctaw Community Development Center. She also chairs the BBCF Youth in Philanthropy Committee. Anya serves on the advisory council for the Sumter County Department of Human Resources JOBS Task Force and the Bell-Brown Career Technical School. She is a young, yet experienced grant writer with a deep commitment to building strong communities and generational wealth.
