Kristin C. Law, Arts CoordinatorKristin C. Law

With a Fine Arts degree from the University of Montevallo and a lifelong love for the art, culture, and history of Alabama’s Black Belt, Kristin Law feels blessed to serve as the BBCF’s Arts Coordinator. Growing up the only child of Kathy Law, also a very talented artist, she was encouraged to experiment with and appreciate art from a very young age. Traveling throughout the Black Belt counties, taking photographs with her mother for work, Kristin developed a love and appreciation for this rich, cultural region and its people. As a teenager, she spent hours watching her neighbor and renowned artist, William Harris, paint at his Possum Bend Store, sharing stories and tips on painting along the way.

Kristin attributes the amazing Art Department, Professors, and Offerings at the University of Montevallo, for providing her with the skills she has used to succeed in her career - from the opportunity to construct and fire three large kilns, to learning to hang gallery exhibitions and developing a passion and enthusiasm for Art History.  In 2001, Kristin moved to Norfolk, Virginia with her husband Michael and daughter Madeline where Michael was serving in the US Navy. While in Virginia, Kristin spent eight years as the Curator of Collections at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens and as Ceramics Instructor at the Hermitage Visual Arts School. In addition, she served as a Board Member for the Tidewater Art Alliance, exhibited and won numerous awards for her art, and presented workshops in art, preservation, and local history through the Virginia Association of Museums.

After moving home in 2009, Kristin worked with Black Belt Treasures in Wilcox County, utilizing her skills in art education and marketing. It is here that she was introduced to many Black Belt artists, who have reinstilled that real art is in the soul and cannot be taught.  The people, stories, traditions, art and history of this rich cultural region have inspired Kristin and shaped her desire to share the treasures of the Black Belt with the world.

On the weekends, Kristin can be found with her daughters, Madeline and Samantha, husband Michael, and hopefully creating a little art. She is also owner of Possum Pottery & Jewelry, teaches pottery lessons, is a lifelong member of Camden United Methodist Church, serves as 2nd Vice President of Wilcox Academy’s PTA and President of Wilcox Historical Society, and is a member of Leadership Wilcox class of 2011 and Wilcox Artworks.
